When the British Carmelite nun Sr. Rachel Gregory, OCD, a spiritual writer known to the world as Ruth Burrows, died in November 2023, she was described in one obituary as, “A Teresa of Avila of our times.” This talk will introduce the life and spirituality of Ruth Burrows, with a particular emphasis on the value of her teaching on prayer.
Dr. Michelle Jones lives a life of prayer in rural Western Australia, writing and teaching in the field of Christian spirituality with a focus on the Carmelite spiritual tradition. She is a lecturer at the Australian Institute of Theological Education (a member institute of the Sydney College of Divinity), and the author of The Gospel Mysticism of Ruth Burrows: Going to God with Empty Hands (ICS Publications) and Ruth Burrows: Essential Writings (Orbis Books).
